Green Infrastructure Foundation

The Green Infrastructure Foundation (GIF) was founded in 2007 to respond to the need for greater awareness and resources to promote green infrastructure in local communities. GIF is a tax-exempt, charitable organization affiliated with Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC), a membership based industry association and the leading entity for promoting the Green Roof and Wall industries in the U.S. and Canada.

Vision

The Green Infrastructure Foundation will work with Green Roofs for Healthy Cities to deepen and broaden public awareness of the multiple benefits of green roofs, green walls and urban forests as part of the built environment.

GIF will be a well-recognized source of information, technical assistance, case studies, evaluation tools and policy models for green infrastructure among both public sector and private sector decision-makers.

GIF will support the efforts of other organizations that focus on related areas such as low-impact development, green buildings, eco-industrial development and other sustainability initiatives.

GIF will have active programs and activities that promote the positive contributions green infrastructure can make in communities while addressing barriers to green infrastructure such as local, state and federal regulations, the lack of awareness among policymakers and their constituencies, and the lack of technical knowledge about green infrastructure among contractors and consultants.
