| Our Mission |
|
To provide resources, training, public education, and evaluation of public and private infrastructure investments to help communities, local governments and private developers make the built environment more economically, ecologically and socially sustainable. Green Infrastructure is the interconnected network of open spaces and natural areas, such as greenways, wetlands, parks, urban forests and native plant vegetation that naturally manages stormwater, reduces flooding risk and improves air and water quality. Green Infrastructure often costs less to install and maintain when compared to traditional forms of infrastructure. Green Infrastructure enhances liveability, energy efficiency and counteracts the urban heat island effect. Green Infrastructure projects can also foster community cohesiveness by engaging stakeholders in the planning, planting and maintenance of green infrastructure site. |
